{"id":1636,"date":"2012-03-12T16:56:56","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T20:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/?p=1636"},"modified":"2012-03-12T16:56:56","modified_gmt":"2012-03-12T20:56:56","slug":"nsf-program-directors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/03\/12\/nsf-program-directors\/","title":{"rendered":"NSF Program Directors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informs.org\">INFORMS<\/a> eNews that NSF is looking for new Program Directors for both Operations Research and Manufacturing Enterprise Systems\/Service Enterprise Systems. \u00a0Needless to say, these are critical positions for the operations research community. \u00a0And, reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.uic.edu\/~sloan\/my-papers\/sloan-SIGACT-news-blurb.pdf\">Robert Sloan&#8217;s article<\/a> about his stint in computing theory at NSF, it sounds like a fun job!<\/p>\n<p>Here is the announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Russell Barton and Michael Fu, currently completing their terms at the National Science Foundation, would like you to consider serving at\u00a0NSF\u00a0in one of their roles &#8211; either as\u00a0Program\u00a0Director for the Operations Researchprogram\u00a0or for the Manufacturing Enterprise Systems\/Service Enterprise Systems (SES) programs. Their replacements will take office approximately in August\/September. The process will remain open until the positions are filled. Serving at\u00a0NSF, write Michael and Russell, is fascinating, challenging, and extremely rewarding. The OR\/INFORMS community will benefit greatly by worthy candidates being selected for these positions.
