{"id":233,"date":"2008-02-19T09:30:23","date_gmt":"2008-02-19T13:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/?p=226"},"modified":"2008-02-19T09:30:23","modified_gmt":"2008-02-19T13:30:23","slug":"death-of-mike-rothkopf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/02\/19\/death-of-mike-rothkopf\/","title":{"rendered":"Death of Mike Rothkopf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www2.informs.org\/Press\/MichaelRothkopf.jpg\" align=\"left\" height=\"183\" hspace=\"5\" width=\"122\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/php.smeal.psu.edu\/smeal\/dirbio\/displayBio.php?t_user_id=mhr13\">Mike Rothkopf<\/a>, former president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informs.org\">INFORMS<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegian.psu.edu\/archive\/2008\/02\/19\/prof_dies_in_mccoy_pool.aspx\"> died while swimming on the campus of Penn State<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A regular natatorium patron, the 68-year-old supply chain information systems professor appeared to be &#8220;just relaxing&#8221; &#8212; floating on his back &#8212; when concerned lifeguards tapped him on the shoulder at about 8 a.m. yesterday, said Tom Griffiths, manager of aquatic facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Three student lifeguards and three professional staff members attempted to revive the unresponsive Rothkopf using an automated external defibrillator and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Griffiths said. Rothkopf was pronounced dead at Mount Nittany Medical Center at about 9:15 a.m. His cause of death was unknown by press time yesterday, the hospital&#8217;s nurse supervisor said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Mike had recently moved to Penn State after a long career at Rutgers.  A former editor of <em>Interfaces<\/em>, Mike was passionate about the need for academics and practitioners in our field to communicate more and have more (and better) interactions.
