{"id":240,"date":"2008-03-12T12:10:32","date_gmt":"2008-03-12T16:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/?p=234"},"modified":"2008-03-12T12:10:32","modified_gmt":"2008-03-12T16:10:32","slug":"get-your-registration-in-for-the-informs-practice-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mat.tepper.cmu.edu\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/03\/12\/get-your-registration-in-for-the-informs-practice-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Get your registration in for the INFORMS Practice Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I really like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informs.org\/Conf\/Practice08\">INFORMS Practice Meeting<\/a>.\u00a0 It is <em>much<\/em> different than the regular INFORMS conference.\u00a0 The key difference is that not everyone speaks.\u00a0 At regular INFORMS (or EURO or IFORS), practically everyone there will give a 20-25 minute talk on their own research.\u00a0 At the Practice Meeting, speakers are carefully selected in order to present the best practical work, along with the most important methodological advances (generally in the form of tutorials).\u00a0 As an example of the talks, here is the &#8220;Supply Chain&#8221; track:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Procter &amp; Gamble<\/strong> \u2013 William Tarlton, Supply Chain R&amp;D Manager, Personal Beauty Care Products, on implementing inventory optimization at P&amp;G.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pepsi Bottling Group<\/strong> \u2013 Arzum Akkas, Senior Project Manager, Supply Chain Technology, on retail out-of-stock reduction in a direct store delivery environment .<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pennsylvania State University<\/strong> \u2013Terry Harrison, Professor of Business, Professor of Supply Chain &amp; Information Systems, and Thomas Robbins, Instructor in Supply Chain &amp; Information Systems, on services supply chain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Xilinx<\/strong> \u2013 Alex Brown, Principal Engineer and Supply Chain Architect, on collecting and using demand information from customers and distributors to improve forecasts and supply chain performance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>IBM <\/strong>\u00a0\u2013Markus Ettl, Manager of Supply Chain Analytics &amp;
