Why another? Why, because we - and thousands like us - will happily buy it, and read it, and discuss it, and speculate about its sequel and its meanings and its casting, that's why. And because PO'B likes writing 'em. What other reasons need there be? Lisa Grossman 40* 42' N, 73* 20' W

280 Why another after The Commodore? -- rank: 669
Possible SPOILER--Warning, not recommended to be read by those who have not arrived at Volume 12 Perhaps the best answer to Stephen Clark's question must await a reading of the Yellow Admiral, but last summer we had a similar discussion when some of us assigned logical finality to volume 12, Letter of Marque. As with the Commodore all the loose ends were tied. In fact Jack was in considerably better agreement with Sophie than at the end of the Commodore. And what a serene ending. Who can for ...

I don't know if this has cropped up in previous discussions but just before the publication of YA (for you lucky people across the ocean, at least) I thought it seemed an appropriate moment to ask the question, why another novel to follow 'The Commodore'? When I finished the latter sometime last year, it seemed of all the books, to end with the least loose ends. Of all the previous 16 I was left with unanswered questions or our heroes at some crisis point. In fact when I first discovered the ser ...

I just read The Commodore and I was very disappointed with the 'grand fleet action' promised on the book jacket. After such careful development of the engagement, it seemed as if POB simply ran out of steam and finished the book as quickly as he could. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
