I've been ashore for a few days (d*** extensive/expensive dental work), and am just now looking in. I'm glad to see postings concerning our group read this month, albeit under different titles! I have no problem at all with Jane Austen (I am a fan, truly), but it was a little sad to see more going on in the Jan Austen group read than about the canon! As in Windermere, the largest English Lake (sometimes called, tautologically, "Lake Windermere"). Although, at only 10 miles long and a mile wide at the widest, she is a mere (no pun intended) puddle by world standards. There are several other lakes in northern England whose names end in -mere. I always thought it was a Viking usage, but oddly similar to the latin "mare". Anyone know for sure? Clive 54.40N 01.42W > -----Original Message----- > From: The Patri ...
