Master and Commander: "The music-room in the Governor's House at Port Mahon, a tall, handsome, pillared octagon, was filled with the triumphant first movement of Locatelli's C major quartet." And what happens a few pages later? Jack gets his heart's desire, a promotion he thought might never come. He is made post. Anna Ravano...I didn't see this passage in your wonderful Aubreyisms collection. (Go to Gunroom Home>Resources to see Anna's compilation.) That's about the length of this blade. The handle was flat on one side to fit against your leg and rounded on the outside, the sheath just protected the blade with no other means of attachment other than your garter holding it in. Agreed. I have a book of poems from a local Australian poet who wrote a piece on 'Mexican fighting knives' . In the introduction he noted that the Mexican fighting knife was used about 99.9% of the time for opening beer bottles but that a 'Beer bottle opening knife' just not macho enough!
