256 More on Maturin's sad Eden (BATM spoiler) -- rank: 633
Spoilers for Blue at the Mizzen follow: * * * * * * * * Last April we had a thread on Maturin's Sad Eden, a thread discussing Stephen and Christine's visit to the area near her house in BATM, and there were a number of references wch POB planted that seemed to show he intended them to be in a rather beat-up garden of Eden. The first message in the thread was quite a long one (well, I wrote it) and I won't reprint it here, but you can find it in the archives, along with a number of ...

257 ... What's the story with Christine and Stephen? Spoilers for BATM -- rank: 633
No evidence indeed, though I'm sure my age is easy enough to gauge based purely on my evident innocence :) You were close too, 24. Stephen just seems to have 'other' priorities, is all I really meant... Andy

The Gunroom, I hope, will excuse the format of this message. I am at my son's house, baby sitting the infant Bridget(Goddess of Poetry, Light and Wisdom) and am using his damnable non-Mac thingie. Gerry has questioned Doctor SM's seeming loss of love for riding muleback, and Jaap has echoed her demand for explanation. I believe the answer is simple. He rides British mules with skill and delight; it is foreign mules wch he distrusts. (I don't have TGS with me, but the mule wch he rides was ...

Why would a mule be called "she"? Ummmm....unless I missed something vital in Jap's post, there seems to be a bit of basic zoological knowledge lacking here. Whie mules, a hybrid of a female horse and a male donkey, are almost always sterile, that does not preclude sexual differentiation. There are female mules and male mules. And mule-breeding, mule showing, and mule competitions are still enthusiastically pursued http://www.imh.org/imh/bw/mule.html. Was it in TGS when Steph ...

270 Stephen on mule-back (mild spoilers for PC & BATM) -- rank: 633
In BATM Chapter 9, page 209 (HC) we read: Stephen separated the ingredients of his little packet into their different compartments, and said, 'Thank you, [...]. Amos, we must go down to Valparaiso directly, though I quite dread seeing that road again.' 'If only you could overcome your prejudice against mules, as I have said many times before, I could show you a quicker, easier road [...].' 'Then let us call for excellent mules, with an equivalent number of muzzles, and a warranted muletee ...
