Not a spoiler, just a sentence I like: Eighty-five: that is a great age. ===== "Who wishes to be a meagre sailorman if he can be a learned and enter the government service? Last night I read halfway through BATM, and I have to say I was startled, even shocked, at the abrupt way in which POB disposed of. . . . Clarissa Oakes. Never would I have suspected such a fate! Gerry Strey Madison, Wisconsin

I have a copy of Blue at the Mizzen, but haven't had a chance to get into it yet. I got it from a huge pile at the Barnes and Noble on Union Square, but I've seen it in a couple of other bookstores in the city. 640 Illegal BATM? -- rank: 633
I see over on the Norton POB Message Board that Jim Nelson reports seeing "Blue at the Mizzen" on sale at a Barnes & Noble in the Boston area today, although not at his local bookstore. I think it might have been temporarily on the shelves at the Borders in Cranston, RI, too -- when I was there at noon, there was a conspicuous hole several inches wide just to the right of their copies of THD, as if some conscientious employee (curse his/her heart!) retrieved their copies of ...

I would assume it was a duplicate but I don't know what their actual criteria are for getting rid of books. Many I picked up were like new, some were falling apart. Who knew the library would have so many pulp paperbacks? (Favorite find of all split between the complete works of Joseph Conrad from the 30's (minus Heart of Darkness) and The Pipe, a wonderful if biased treatise on pipe smoking written in the 50's - did you know that using an ember from a campfire affords "30% more plea ...
