But, um, unlike the mantis, most of the time Diana isn't interested in ANY portion of SM's anatomy. -Kyle C ---------------- On Wed, 13 Feb 2008 19:54:38 -0800, William Atkinson <viconiaslover_at_SBCGLOBAL.NET> wrote: > >Hmf, I'm still attached to my female praying mantis image.   To be removed from the GUNROOM list send a blank message to UNSUBSCRIBE-GUNROOM_at_HMSSURPRISE.ORG (Please remove this message when replying)

A glass of wine with you, sir. I am of like mind. While such speculation is exceptionally entertaining (and I take my hat off to our crop of clever lissuns), I rather suspect that only a small quantity of the allusions and sophistries ferreted out from the text were actually placed there deliberately. I am much in your way of thinking, sir. I am willing to tolerate the lesser riches at the end of The Canon for two reasons: 1. The lesser efforts of POB still blow most others out of the water, as you might say. 2. ...

I too have been in turn been amazed, humbled, and sometimes made skeptical by the bountfiful insights lissuns have found in the canon. It's like drinking a glass of wine--some can detect subtle flavors of fruits, tobacco, woods and whatnot, but for me it's more like "Tastes great--another glass and be quick about it!"   Gerry Strey Madison, Wisconsin But then, I have to admit to being astounded by the marvels others find in the workings of the Master, being too blinded by the ru ...

Do you mean the nude scene? I've wondered about this, finding it unlikely and unrealistic. What was POB thinking of? Adam and Eve? And he gives Christine a somewhat strange past--living with her naturalist brother, untterly devoted to each other and inseparable, and then a marriage to an older, impotent(I believe that is what is hinted at) man with whom she has nothing in common. I have found the canon from WDS increasingly disappointing, and have never reread any of hte later booksd, so ...

I can't put a finger on the relevance, but I'll offer a fact: leopards are hard to encounter (I almost said "spot") in the wild. Between their shyness and their camoflage, they are the most elusive of the "big five" in South Africa. I saw one! I had an excellent guide in Kruger Park, and he did show me a leopard, the joy of it! I saw all the big five in one 3-day safari. Stephen encountering one is yet another example of his oneness with animals. Had Martin been th ...

SPOILERS for THD and BATM below: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In THD Stephen encounters a leopard: "the lovely spotted creature, sprawling insolently along a horizontal mossy branch: he watched them with a fine unconcern for quite a time, but when Stephen made a motion, a very cautious motion, towards his telescope, the leopard slipped off his branch on the far side without a sound, and wholly vanished."
