Just a quick note that the 2008 Edelman Prize was won by Netherlands Railways. That was not one that I saw today, so I’ll check out their presentation tomorrow and report on it. Congrats to the winners! This is a very competitive prize, and INFORMS does a great job in providing a classy awards ceremony for it at the Practice Meeting.
Re “classy ceremony”: d’accord. The Edelman presentation has matured into a rather inspiring event, creating an unusual atmosphere of aspiration and camaraderie. Too bad it isn’t webcast, or otherwise shared with OR folks who cannot make the meeting.
At leisure, I hope you will expand on the remarkable breadth of this year’s Edelman finalists: three European contenders (StatoilHydro, the City of Stockholm and Netherland Railways), the EPA, the FAA, and a lone “OR Classic” exemplar – Xerox. While all the finalists seemed to have strong briefs, I was rooting for the EPA, not the least for the delicious irony of a Bush-era agency winning an award for operational intelligence.
